In the early years AI was used mostly from bulls such as Scottish Neff , Siegfried and Landmark. We then imported Etandard along with the Killane herd from France and he was very successful leaving many good females.

Although we mostly use our own stock bulls some purchased semen  is also used from such bulls as Carnkern Titan Cleenagh Flasher and Dovefields Gallant. Semen is also retained occasionally from some of our top young bulls before they are sold e.g. Kilbride Farm Barrister  and Kilbride Farm Edgar (Supreme Champion Perth October 1995).

ORAGE: This massive bull was imported from France in 1979 and had a huge impact on the herd , increasing size, power and performance beyond anything previous, for example,

  • Kilbride Farm Marion:  Twice RUAS champion
  • Kilbride Farm Perry: Our first Perth champion and sold to the Hockenhall herd.

Orage semen was exported to Denmark Australia and New Zealand and is still requested by some breeders almost 30 years after his importation.

MONCUR SENSATION: This Dirnanean Nugget son was purchased privately in 1987  for his fleshing and correctness. In 1989 he was the first Simmental to win the Interbreed championship at the RUAS and was Male of the Year the same year. He bred a lot of very good females with tremendous milk and very good temperament .   Sons have sold up to 5200 gns for Kilbride Farm Bermuda.

ARDADONEY VOLVO: This Shalaho Lancelot son was purchased for his size and power and was from a herd of very strong females. He has bred very well, most notably Kilbride Farm Barrister, and many of our more recent successes have Volvo bloodlines in their background. He is still used occasionally in the herd today.

ARDADONEY DICTATOR: This naturally polled bull had great length and hindquarters ,and produced quite a high percentage of polled calves. His purchase price of 6200 gns is still the highest price paid at a sale for a Simmental in Northern Ireland.
